04.05 – EXTRACT COMEDONES AND PUSTULES: WIM of JPK N-011-1 Jurukecantikan

This  is the sample of Information Sheet of Written Instructional Materials (WIM)  of the JPK NOSS N-011-1 Jurukecantikan 


FACIAL CARE teaches the student to be competent in performing facial care treatment. At the end of the lesson, students will be able to prepare facial work are, cleanse client’s skin, analyze skin, deep cleansing, extract comedones and pustules, massage face till chest, apply mask, tone and moisturize client’s face.





EXTRACT COMEDONES & PUSTULES :
a.       A skin lesion is a structural change in the tissues caused by injury or disease
b.      Dermatolody is the study of the skin, its nature, functions and structure of the skin, skin diseases and treatments
c.       The two types of skin lesion are the primary (heals without leaving scars or mark) and the secondary (heals with epidermal crust and later will leave scars or marks)
d.      Secondary lesions are those in the skin which develop in the early stages
e.      Pustule is an elevation of the skin having an inflamed base containing pus, and is a primary skin lesion
f.        Scar is an immediate skin lesion, and is likely to form after healing of an injury which has penetrated into the dermal layer
g.       “Skin disease” is an infection of the skin, whereas the “seasonal skin disease” is influenced by the weather such as “frost bite” or “snow burn” and “sun burn”
h.      “Acute disease” is of a more or less vibrant character and of short duration and normally will not recur, but a “chronic disease” is of long duration, usually mild but recurring
i.         The fore finger should be wrapped with cotton wet with astringent / toner for extractions of comedones and pustules. Facial tissue is not recommended for use during extractions as it is too abrasive. Cotton is recommended as it is much softer
j.        Skin must be prepared (vaporized) before extractions, as vapor softens the skin surface
k.       The aesthetician should concentrate on one blackhead at a time, gently and carefully so as not to bruise the tissue
l.         Albinism is the absence of color pigmentation in the skin and hair
m.    It is important not to press down the cartilage during comedones / pimples extractions
n.      A metal comedones extractor is never used as it can cause the follicle walls to rupture, spilling sebum and bacteria into the dermis
o.      Every pimple starts from a blackhead or clogged follicle
p.      Before extracting a pimple, it is important that the pimple has come to a head, with pus visible. When in doubt whether to extract the pimple, it is best to leave it alone
q.      Needle for prickling the pimple should be sterilized
r.        The common term for comedones is blackheads and milia is whiteheads
s.       A dermatologist is a skin specialist
t.        As a person ages, the dermis layer undergo changes (skin loses elasticity)
u.      To safeguard her own and the public’s health, the aesthetician should refuse to treat a client with an infection or contagious disease
v.       Eczema is an inflammation of the skin of acute or chronic nature. Vitiligo is an acquired condition of leudoderma, affecting the skin. Another name for freckles is lentigines. A technical name for wart is verruca
w.     Chloasma is found mainly on the forehead, nose and cheeks
x.       Broken capillaries are dilated, thin walled blood vessels
y.       A cyst often starts when a follicle ruptures deep within the dermis
z.       A tanned skin is caused by excessive exposure to the sun






04.04 – CARRY OUT DEEP CLEANSING PROCEDURE: WIM of JPK N-011-1 Jurukecantikan

DEEP CLEANSING PROCEDURE

a.       The various method of deep cleansing is steaming, facial brush (frimator), exfoliation products, and desincrustation (galvanic)
b.      Vapor mist from vaporizer softens dead surface cells
c.       Vaporizing is done on the skin after cleansing and skin analyzing
d.      Distilled or filtered water should be used in the vaporizer
e.      Tap water used in the vaporizer will cause malfunction of the vaporizer
f.        For normal skin, the vaporizer should be 10 inches – 12 inches away from the client’s face
g.       Exfoliation should not be done on sensitive skin
h.      The purpose of a facial scrub is to remove surface dead cells
i.         Before deep cleansing is performed, cleansing should be done first
j.        Deep cleansing should be able to leave skin feeling clean and refreshed, but tightened and taut
k.       After effect of deep cleansing with exfoliating products may include a mild prickling sensation
l.         A smooth glowing appearance is achieved after a deep cleansing
m.    AHA exfoliating products is not advisable to use on hypersensitive skin because the skin is too thin to be exfoliated
n.      A counter treat for AHA adverse skin reaction is cold water
o.      The contra-indications for vaporizing are broken capillaries, open wounds, sunburnt skin, cuts, swelling, etc
p.      To start vaporzone, “on” vaporizer first and wait till vapor starts, then “on” the ozone
q.      To “off” a vaporzone, “off” ozone first, only then vaporizer
r.        Over exposure to ozone will cause damage to client’s lungs which will trigger the asthma sickness

1.       ANALYZE SKIN :
a.       Skin analysis equipment can be a magnifying lamp
b.      Skin can be analyzed without a machine by using the vision and feeling technique
c.       Client’s consultation card should contain client’s name, address, contact number, date of birth, occupation, etc
d.      Any abnormalities of the skin should be notes and recorded
e.      A normal skin appears neither too dry nor too oily
f.        Skin may become dry due to too much sun, poor diet and aging
g.       Dry skin that is lacking “natural oil” sebum may be classified as oil dry skin
h.      Dry skin that lacks of moisture is classified as dehydrated skin
i.         A dehydrated skin is prone to fine lines and wrinkles
j.        Normal skin is usually free of blemishes
k.       Couperose skin is identified by small broken capillaries
l.         Oily skin has an over abundance of sebum
m.    If black / white heads are not treated, the condition worsens and becomes acne skin
n.      A combination skin may have dry and oily area
o.      Matured / aging skin usually is loose, crepey, wrinkled and / or lined
p.      Acne rosacea like seborrhea is more common in adult females
q.      Seborrhea is functional disease of the sebaceous glands, characterized by an excessive sebum secretion
r.        Dark skin does not usually show signs of maturity as early as fair skin
s.       Always remember that consultation is best done in the consultation room

2.       PHYSIOLOGY OF THE SKIN :
a.       The horny zone of the epidermis contains stratum corneum, stratum lucidum, stratum granulosum
b.      The germinative zone of epidermis contains stratum mucosum, stratum germinativum
c.       Corneum layer is thickest on palms of hands and soles of feet
d.      Skin is the thinnest on the eyelid area
e.      Dermis layer contains collagen / elastin fibers, sweat glands
f.        Another name for dermis is cutis, true skin
g.       Epidermis contains the 5 layers, namely stratum gerinativum, stratum mucosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, stratum corneum
h.      Melanins are produced by the melanocyte at the basal layer
i.         The functions of the skin are protection, sensation, heat regulation, secretion, excretion and absorption
j.        Stratum lucidum or clear layer consists of small transparent cells
k.       Another name for stratum germinativum is stratum spinosum
l.         Acid mantle is a combination of sweat and sebum
m.    The two layers of dermis are papillary and tericular layer
n.      Cystine (proteins in our body) is born at the basal layer
o.      Reticular layer lies deeper in the dermis layer
p.      Structures in the dermis are blood vessels, sebaceous glands, hair roots, hair follicles and hairs
q.      The components of stratum corneum are keratin proteins, sweat and sebum
r.        The moisture barrier of the stratum corneum is lipids or acid mantle
s.       Dermis is composed of collagen fibers interlaced with elastic fibers
t.        Epidermis – stratum corneum is composed of dried, flattened keratinocytes

 CLEANSE CLIENT’S FACE :

a.       A cleansing gel is water based, but a cleansing cream is oil based
b.      A proper removal for removing eye and lip make-up is by using eye make-up remover
c.       Client’s hair should be draped before the cleansing starts
d.      Place a towel across client’s chest after client rest on the couch
e.      Client’s jewelleries should be kept with her at all times and will be best in a container
f.        It is best to have a place in the treatment room for client to keep her personal belongings
g.       Hands must be sterilized before touching client's face
h.      Other than using facial sponges, wet cotton pads can be used
i.         Before starting the cleansing procedure, lip color and eye shadows should be removed first
j.        Excess water from facial sponge should be squeezed so that the water will not drip onto the client
k.       When cleansing the eye area, one has to be very gentle as the eye area is very thin
l.         Cotton pads can be converted to form a pair of cleansing mitts to perform cleansing techniques. This method is especially hygienic for acne skin
m.    During the treatment, sponges are kept in a small bowl of lukewarm water beside the therapist for convenience
n.      The best time to change the facial bowl of water is when client’s face under the vaporizer
o.      The basin of water for cleansing should be placed within reach of the beautician
p.      Cleansing of the lip start from the outside corner of mouth to the centre of the lips
q.      Suitable cleanser is selected according to client’s present skin condition
r.        Client’s skin should be thoroughly cleansed so that skin impurities are removed
s.       Facial sponges are not advisable to be shared among clients for facial

04.01 – PREPARE FACIAL WORK AREA


FACIAL CARE teaches the student to be competent in performing facial care treatment. At the end of the lesson, students will be able to prepare facial work are, cleanse client’s skin, analyze skin, deep cleansing, extract comedones and pustules, massage face till chest, apply mask, tone and moisturize client’s face.



PREPARE FACIAL WORK AREA :
a.       A preparation of work area is done before the treatment begins
b.      All prepared items (cotton, compresses, etc) should be stored in a covered container
c.       All implements and supplies should be ready before the arrival of the client
d.      The purpose of the head drape is to cover and protect client’s hair
e.      Blanket / towel placed across client’s chest should also cover client’s feet
f.        Eye pads prepared for client should be large enough to cover the eyes
g.       “Butterfly” eye compresses will not fall from the eyes easily
h.      Hands must be sanitized before touching client’s face
i.         Cotton eye pads can be “round”, “square” or “butterfly” shape
j.        “Butterfly” eye pads are made by twisting soaked cotton in the center with a one-half turn
k.       Fingers should not be used to help tuck in hair strand into the head drape
l.         Aesthetician should check the appointment book at the beginning of the day
m.    A well-organized salon should be neat and all necessary items available
n.      All creams and masks should be removed from the container with a spatula
o.      Facial treatment area should be quiet with a peaceful atmosphere
p.      It is best that client’s handbag be kept with her at all times
q.      It is important to do all preparations in a confident professional manner

GENERAL INSTRUCTION :
Identifying Skin types is a very important step to determine the optimum result in the treatment you recommend to your client. Therefore, special care has to be taken to ensure the skin analysis is carried out professionally, as the wrong analysis will result in your treatment a failure. It is important to complete the skin analysis record. Use the suitable skin analysis equipment and follow the procedure and techniques as demonstrated.

01.Handle skin analysis equipment and tools


a.       Demonstrate how to handle the magnifying lamp :
-          Check condition of magnifying lamp
-          Sterilize magnifying lamp
-          Plug the magnifying lamp to the main
-          Press “on” to check its function
Put magnifying lamp to one side of the couch


02.Recognize skin type and conditions


a.       Demonstrate how to check to recognize skin conditions and types using student as model :
-          Use protected hand and check for contra-indications
Record findings


03.Follow procedure and technique of skin analysis


a.       Skin analysis procedure :
-          Ensure client skin is cleansed first
-          Cover client’s eyes with eye pads
-          Use a skin analysis record
-          Pull the magnifying lamp towards the client face (for client who is lying down on the facial couch; if client is sitting up, use skin scanner)
-          Look through the magnifying lamp and check the skin for its type and conditions
-          Explain to the client the skin condition
Record all conditions and types of skin spotted during the skin analysis into the skin analysis record

04.Complete skin analysis record


a.       Complete the client’s skin analysis record :
-          Check to see if client’s name, address, contact number, date of birth, medical history, skin conditions, skin type are recorded
Check products advised and treatment plan recommended are recorded
